I've had the forum working properly for quite some time. However, it became necessary to migrate my website to a new server.
Somehow, my admin user name and password have gotten royally messed up. I don't remember changing it, but I get "Invalid Password" when I try to log in.
How do I reset them? Is there something I can access through FTP, maybe something I can delete and start over? |

Were you using MD5 encrypted passwords on your old server? You might not have that module installed on the new one maybe.. If they weren't encrypted you can just open 1.dat (or your member number) from the members directory and read or change your details from there.
What happens if you use the forgotten password link? |

I don't believe they were encrypted. Otherwise, I would not be able to read 1.dat to learn that it isn't me.
Forgot password says it sends something, but I never receive it, and it won't let me try again for twelve hours.
I can still get into the old server forum. The user and password that works here does not work on the new one. How do I determine my member number? |

No, Even if it is encrypted you can still read the .dat files, see your email address and know that it's yours. Your password field would either show your password (if it wasn't encrypted) or show random chars (if it was encrypted)
You can change settings.pl and change the lockout duration and maybe the administrator email address if that's still set to your old address.. |

I figured out how to locate my .dat file. The pw is encrypted.
I edited the email address, deleted the "forgot password" line and tried again. I still get nothing when I do that.
Then I got the bright idea to replace the encrypted pw with plain text, and I am in.
That's how it works. A little discussion, and brainstorms happen.
Thanks |
