I have just installed the shout box mod and all I get on the forum where it is supposed to appear is a white box saying "YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED FROM USING THIS SHOUT BOX"

Any ideas??

Thanks

Now I just have to play with it and get at the bottom of the site but that shouldn't be too hard.

Quirk with the Banned.txt file, if it's empty it bans everyone

Uploaded a file with a random ip in it.

I did it in Portal Martin until I figure out how to get it to the bottom of the site.  Once I figure that out then I will install the other mod to get it to appear on the index page.  If I have it at the top of index it gets too cluttered up there.

Try now, your upload program or editor puts a \ in front of every "

You're welcome. I'm going to rewrite the mod to include placing the Shout box at the bottom so don't bust a gut trying to work it out. Should get it done tomorrow.

Will this mod slow down the loading of a site?  I know I have more members then I thought that are on dial-up and they complain that the site is slow.  I set one of the templates just for them and trimmed it down as much as i could.  So with this mod added are they going to notice a slow down in load time?? I have a really fast broadband connection so I can not tell myself.

Thanks for any help on this.

The mod adds extra code, which inevitably slows things down to some degree, but without running detailed Yslow analysis, it would be difficult to tell by exactly what degree... But I wouldn't see that as being a reason to remove the mod, maybe it's a final push those users need to get a proper internet connection.

It's not the way forward to start trimming down websites' rich content because people still using windows 95 are having trouble viewing it...
