Thanks iCONICA!! I was thinking it would but you are right about the people caught in the slow ages and not upgrading!! I just don't want to loose members because the site is too slow.  I am kind of on the fence with that decision.

Thanks for the quick response man.

Optimising the speed of sites is a good idea anyway, so it's snappier and faster for every user, but I wouldn't remove a feature for the sake of dial up users.

There's a plethora of tutorials on basic to incredibly advanced ways to squeeze as much speed out of the site and server as you can. Depends how mad you want to go with it.

I can't get the shoutbox to work on my site. It gives me the following error message in a blue box:

Not Found

The requested URL /PHPShout/inc_form.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

The URL to my forum is here:[url] http://judith-barsi.com/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?[/url]

Will someone please help me correct this?

Looks like you haven't uploaded it to the right place because http://judith-barsi.com/PHPShout/ should bring up the page and it doesn't.

The folder should be in your root, public_html or htdocs the same as Blahdocs.

Now it says when I go to install the mod in my modification center, "Source Code:

    <table cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" width="100%" class="border">

Before:

    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="1" class="border" width="100%" align="center">
    <tr><td>
    <iframe src="/PHPShout/inc_form.php" style="background-color:transparent; width: 100%; height: 250px;" frameborder="0" name="Shout" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" align="top"></iframe>
    </td></tr>
    </table>
    <br/>

--ยป Code not found in source ..."

What did I do wrong this time?

Hi Martin - This looks like exactly what I was searching for, so thanks very much, but I'm having a problem getting it to display on my board index page.  I've followed the instructions in the txt file, updated the config file, FTP'd to the same folder as blahdocs, installed etc... no error messages. It just doesn't appear.  Is it maybe something to do with the Admin username and password setup in the config file? Do they need to be the same as my forum admin details?  I've tried various combinations.

Thanks Martin - I found the setting in FileZilla to upload as ASCII and after doing so it works great. However, the profanity settings do not seem to work... all profanities always get asterisked out even though I set it to allow them (I put a 0 in the config setting).
Cheers
