One of my members pointed out in a silly way that the user online count was off. It showed 5 users online, 2 users and 2 bots. He made a silly signature to the effect of 5 = 2 + 2? and I explained to him that it doesn't show the invisible users. Then I just realized that if a user has a brain, they can deduct how many invisible users are online just by doing simple math.

Isn't the point of being invisible online to be invisible

I'm looking to right a hot-fix in the form of a mod as soon as I figure out how to. I know the code is located in BoardIndex.pl (to my knowledge).

If anyone has any suggestions of a way to fix it without writing a mod that would be most helpful

Don't see a problem myself, what problems could be caused by anyone knowing that there were say 3 invisible users online?

What if if all users decided to tick the box Invisible Online?

it just seems to me that if users don't want to be seen online then they shouldn't show up to keep them truly invisible

if all users decide to be invisible then i see no problem with not showing them

But they are still invisible because no one knows who they are.

I know the admins can see who is invisible but non-admins can deduct who the invisible users are. My point is why is the user count disabled for non users if users can still figure out how many invisible users there are?

Plus you may have other not so popular bots visiting, or even e-mail harvesting....

I'm just being nosey and curious, but if I have 300 members in my forum, and have 5 users online, with 2 bots and 2 visible users, how can I deduce who the invisible member is out of the pool of 297 members who are not online?

I know I can be fairly thick at times, but other than going in Admin, I can't see any obvious way to see who my invisible member is from the Index, Portal, or anywhere else that a plain member can see.

Also, I'm guessing unidentified bots not coded into E-Blah will appear invisible, further obscuring accurate count and deduction.

because 5 = 2 users + 2 bots + X invisible users, then it can be figured out that there is 1 invisible user.

my point was to not list the users but the count. if a user was to choose to be invisible then they shouldn't show up in the count.

as for unidentified bots, my htaccess blocks most of those and allows the bots from google, yahoo, and other bots that are recognized
