A huge thank you to Martin for this mod and also with all his help to set it up correctly. I've been using it for a day in a very busy forum and it has stopped all spam messages so far. Very impressive!

I have tried installing this MOD but the install fails because of the following

Modify File: ./Languages/English/Admin1.lng (1 actions)

Source Code:
     $admintxt[225] = 'Forum Spam Logs';
     $admintxt[226] = 'Form Bot Logs';

After:
      $admintxt[222] = 'Purge Old Sessions';

-->> Code not found in source

so ths mod won't install because of this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm getting 20-30 new spam members daily now.

I figured it out, I needed to put my boards in maintenance mode to be able to install the mod.  Now lets just hope this beats down these spammers.

I will try to install this, and I hope it is self explanatory.
I still have several hundred "waiting for approval".  Is there a fast way to wipe them out?

Thanks to all for the very helpful advice!!!!

Afraid I have not come across any way to clear the unwanted approval, other than deleting one at a time.

When you install the SFS mod, none of its options are enabled!

You must go into the forum settings and enable both the options to block attempts to register by anyone it detects as a spammer, AND you have to go and enable the logging as well, if you want to keep the logs listing those who have been bounced.

If you do not enable these settings, or forget about them, then SFS will not appear to be doing anything.

if you go into the

ADMIN CENTER

VIEW ALL MEMBERS

skip to the last page of members, you can again scroll down to the box for 'checking all members on that page'
then delete the lot (i have membership set to email plus admin approved)

howevers, currently my eblah forums are being scraped, pulled apart tag by tag, and most forum threads 'printed'
which means they are scraping out all irrelevant stuff and nicking all our text to add into their own site, no doubt
google will then look at said nicked text without the unecessary formating and choose to show their site instead of
ours

this is NOT only happening with Eblah, it is across all the forums, howevers, other forums there are many codes to
implement further anti theft devices, so far, i have not found any such protection for Eblah software, hence i am taking
really drastic measures, which may affect a couple of 'real' people, but feel there's no other way to protect 5+ years of
daily work

Since Google does not disclose its search algorithms, and the only people making claims about them tend to be anti-google, there's no evidence to support Google favouring scraped text over the original.

On the basis that scraped text will probably appear on sites that are trying to circumvent Google's policies, they are likely to pushed down the ranks, not up.

If you are seriously concerned about scraping, then subscribe to:

CloudFlare | The web performance & security company

Which offers an anti-scraping app.

Probably more effective than kicking Google.

I also suspect that huge block of text at the bottom of your site's index page is also harming your ranking on Google, as their info does tell us the sort of thing they mark down for ranking.

"Bulgaria" appears 467 times. Google will throw a site down its rankings if a word is repeated any more than a few times on a page.

Google marks down all those old-fashioned SEO tricks.

Reducing that block to a few explanatory lines could help. That might be why sites you think have "nicked" content get better ranking than yours.

and if it wasn't for the people/bad bots, that wish to take, it would still be number one

I've been trying unsuccessfully to install this mad for two days now. I uploaded in ascii, ran test install, I got no errors, I clicked install and then spent hours looking for spam settings in the forum settings. I can't find anything relating to spam anywhere. I clicked on remove mod and was warned that this wouldn't uninstall the mod, so I clicked on install again and got the same message I got when I installed it "(un)installed", there's no way to differentiate between installed or uninstalled, as the mod still appears in the mods list whether it's installed or uninstalled. I've done this so many times now I've lost all sense of whether it's installed or not. I really need this to work but it's wearing me out and the list of spammers needing validated/deleted is growing larger by the day. I hope somebody can help point me in the direction of spam settings.

First, do you get a new left hand side menu, bottom left of your screen when you are in the admin area?

Forum Spam Logs
Forum Bot Logs

The actual settings should be under Main Preferences, then Forum Spam

You will need to get a Stop Forum Spam API key from -> http://www.stopforumspam.com/

Martin who did this mod is no longer on this site, I can PM you his email if you still get problems
