In the recent months I have been getting auto members signed up on my forum..  I can't figure out how to stop the spam signups from just random emails which is causing some issues on spam posts.

Hi, I am having the same problem 10 or 20 a day, I had to lock the forum while I was away or there would have been hundreds when I got back. I am not very good at programming. Thanks for any help. Dave. http://www.c4byloeb.com/blog/Blah.pl?

Same problem here, and this is a major problem so far as our forum is extremely busy so it's hard to monitor all those spam users and messages.

In the past we used to get several spam users signing up every week but since they were not posting any messages (or only posting an odd message once in a blue moon) we didn't see it as a problem.
However, since August we've been getting an average of 50-60 spam messages daily and I can't find a way to stop those spam messages or new users from signing up. I tried to enabling email verification but it doesn't seem to work for the spammers. They are still able to post messages even though their account is not approved.

They've probably found some hole in the forum and they're exploiting it big time now.

Justin, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I think you have to look closer to home for the reason, and some error in settings, rather than point at the forum code.

If that was the case, there would be many (all) users with the same problem.

The items such as email verification, and being able to post without account approval, suggest that they are not set correctly, or there is some problem with your settings file, or perhaps how it is being read or used with your server/directory/file configuration.

Looking to code that is running fine in many other instances is usually a mistake if searching for a problem with an application, if there are not hordes of other users all reporting the same symptoms.

Justin setup my forum, so I'm assuming that all setting are set properly since he'd know better than anyone how to do this properly
I'm no programming expert so I wouldn't know.

Well, there's half a chance he'll know something about it (kidding! Only kidding!)

Until you have someone to give access via FTP (I'm assuming you are dependent on help) then I'd still say some hard thought needs to be given to who else may have had access to the settings in the past.

If there really is nobody at all, then you may want to have a word with your hosting service, and ask there techs if anything has changed in the directories where the code for E-Blah is stored and runs.

I have had issues win the past (not the same as your, but where changes or edits I was attempting to make were apparently changing when I made them, but when I went the Forum (and another application i use with it) I found that all my changes and edits appeared to have been ignored.

After banging my head against this for a week, I asked for help...

I got an apology from the tech guys at my host, who explained that they had rule sets in place to prevent hackers taking control of files if they managed to get in via a hacked account, and those rules can be "too enthusiastic" under some circumstances, and disallow legitimate changes and edits.

They removed some of the rule criteria for me, and things were fine ever since.

Nobody has touched the settings. I know very little around these stuff so I wouldn't dare to touch anything.
I do have FTP access to my server but I wouldn't know where to look (or what to look for...)
