Make entire clickable in the menu? Reply Follow Posted by: johnnyhenderson

Hi all,

The menu items on my site are buttons, so I wish to have the entire button clickable, not just the text. I've tried messing around with the menu_render function to make the 'a' element encompass the 'li', but that always super messes it up.

Anyone know how I could accomplish this?

Thanks

Firstly you need an SSL Certificate from your hosting provider.

Secondly; modifying the standard Anchor .htaccess file to the following; will push all traffic through https instead of http.

Options -indexes

<IfModule mod_expires.c>
ExpiresActive On
ExpiresByType image/jpg "access plus 1 year"
ExpiresByType image/jpeg "access plus 1 year"
ExpiresByType image/gif "access plus 1 year"
ExpiresByType image/png "access plus 1 year"
ExpiresByType text/css "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType application/pdf "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType text/x-javascript "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType application/x-shockwave-flash "access plus 1 month"
ExpiresByType image/x-icon "access plus 1 year"
ExpiresDefault "access plus 1 year"
</IfModule>

# 331 days
<FilesMatch ".(svg|woff|js)$">
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=28598400, public"
</FilesMatch>

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\. [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*) http://www.%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

    RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off
    RewriteRule ^(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]

    RewriteBase /

    # Allow any files or directories that exist to be displayed directly
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d

    # Rewrite all other URLs to index.php/URL
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?/$1 [L]
</IfModule>

<IfModule !mod_rewrite.c>
    ErrorDocument 404 index.php
</IfModule>
Note: I have a few extra things in there to handle cache on a particular website.

You will get errors trying to serve http data over https, for example; if you have an image on your website, that comes from imgur, and it's http://imgur.com/imagename - it'll serve an error over https, so make sure website is delivering externally hosted assets over https too.

Saw that too. No skins, etc. Would love a tutorial on doing that as well as some past skins too.

The set up via Heart is easy, and a once click install, so you will not need any actual instructions.
To make it work, go through all of the admin settings, and things should be pretty simple.

[face=Arial][/face]I have installed E-Blah from the HeartInternet Hosting server to my website. That appeared to go smoothly but I can not find any documentation to help with the set-up. The E-Blah documentation site no longer exists.
Can anyone help by sending a copy please?

I have a minimum of over 100 spam registrants per hour and have for 6 months. Everyone here is so knowledgeable in computer programing where I am not. I called HostGater who is the server for my website and they too suggested Captcha.

Would anyone here be interested in installing what is needed to stop this 'spam storm' for me? I would be willing to pay someone for the help. Thx.

My website has been going thru a 'spam storm' for registration for months!!!!! Spam from all over the world are trying to register. I tried using the 'Human Verification' option but it doesn't work on my server. It just shows and 'error' when someone tries to register.

I have had the register option disabled for months. Is there another option out there? If there is one and it involves a script change or some computer programing.....I don't have a clue how to do that. Can anyone advise?

Name of the calendar data file Posted by: Apollo

Can you tell me the name of the file the calendar data is stored in please?

I am assuming it is held in a single file, and not a collection, I hope.

I'm not sure what happened, but mine has been deleted, but not by any deliberate act on my part.

A few weeks ago, I had reason to remove the event display from the bottom of the forum, and so unchecked the box in the forum settings, and thought no more of it.

I checked the box to show events again, but when I looked - no events on show. I had items for every day of the year, and there was a lot of them.

When I went into the 'Update events' option to look at some and just check the setting... there was nothing displayed.

I'm at a loss as to think why, as I have no other hiccups with the forum, and haven't looked for, or seen, an option to "Delete all events" that I could have hit by accident.

I've got backups, but don't know which file to hunt for.

Odd?

IP (Invision) board is using the Stop Forum Spam solution, and others asking a "Human" Q+A is also proving to be a solution. All forms of just Captcha, lets be honest are now broken, and must be ditched, even Captcha is now looking at "Key Captcha" as a possible answer.

Martins Stop Forum Spam Mod, has go to be the most vital ingredient needed as a vital fix for eblah. I only have 4 forum left running this script and Stop Forum Spam is catching on average a new user at least once every 5 minutes.

The Stop Forum Spam, along with a human Q+A is going to be the way forward

From my experience with the Salting, it doesn't eliminate spamming, but it does at the very least stop the automatic bots well, and the registration farms are pretty much covered by stopforumspam and aksimet.

As for the image, I've using a different font for image Generation (jokerman) and modified the generation string to "width => 200, height => 40, lines => 8, font => "$prefs/font.ttf", angle => 10, scramble => 1, rndmax => 6, ptsize => 14" with 1500 particles .

I'm averaging about 20 registrations attempts per day with about 1 or 2 getting through stopforumspam a week using the above changes to securityimage + the salt. Before the salt I was get 70-100 attempts with 4 getting through stopforumspam a day. after the salt it was down to 30-40 with 2-3 through stopforumspam a week. adding the image changes dropped the registration down to today's levels.

As for the other image verifiers. the Assira mod seemed to do nothing to stop automatic bots, since I believe the bots would just call register directly after getting the security image instead of clicking the submit button which assira would protect, and the recaptcha mod didn't seem to work correctly and would let people register even if they didn't solve the captcha. Not sure if it was the mod since I was testing the StopForumSpam Mod at the time so they might have conflicted...

So far, out of all the spam blocking techniques I've seen, the stopforumspam mod is easily the most effective.

Yes I agree,  I've tried a few different fonts etc,   stopforumspam is the best solution by far.

What you could also try is what the original finders tried... Make it impossible to read (solid black) and see if you still get any spam. If so, them there's another problem.

Sorry a bit late getting back, no time for anything at the moment I wasn't sure how to give a black background but I changed the lines to about 50 so the background doesn't get blacker than that. I'm pleased to say, I tried it on two forums and I haven't had one illegal membership yet. So I will keep on tweaking till I get an acceptable level and report back. Thanks.

The error is always on page 'http://www.forum.tld/forum/v-admin/a-verify/'. If I remove `/a-verify' from the URL and reload, the authentication worked.

I also get error 500 when authenticating to forum Admin page. This started happening after I enabled Session authentication, on a newly intstalled forum, pulled from git.

I've tweaked those settings a bit, new registrations are down from about 100 to about 20 so I'll report back when I'm down to a few with the results. cheers

Hmm.

Have you looked into trying a different ttf font? Can someone try that and report back? You can also experiment with changing some of the distortion settings. Can someone that's suffering this problem try that?

Change line 162:

https://github.com/eblah/E-Blah-Forum/blob/master/cgi-bin/forum/Code/Register.pl#L162

The lines, angle, and maybe scramble are what should be adjusted.

Admin2 and Register should be all you need. Look at the commit before for the file changes.

Just some info from from trying this...

I replaced the two files with the new version from GitHub.

All worked fine ie no hiccups or errors when a test registration was made.

But I had to restore the original files after an hour or so as I had already collected more than a dozen spam registrations in that time.

Normally, about 0 - 3 spammers get through in a whole day (I have SFS mod installed).

Hi Justin

Yes I have the  human versification box ticked in main preferences. I have put the GD folder in the forum folder and the font in Prefs. Everything seems to work ok

This is the last line from three different forums settings.pl

$captcha_random = "LLn(!yi36J7f!kzFX(M8";
1;

$captcha_random = "3cPP^8QtB)76j*RQw9qL";
1;

$captcha_random = "(fhQ#!52GQ9o24(9T6!*";
1;

Have I missed something out? Thanks for your help.
